Overview
An ugg boot is a pull-on boot of twin-face sheepskin, the wool left on the inside against the foot and the tanned skin forming the soft outer, with a light synthetic sole. Warm, soft, and shapeless, it is made for comfort rather than support or style.
How it is worn
It is worn without socks over bare feet for warmth around the house, after surfing, or on cold mornings, slipped on and off with ease and not really meant for wet or hard wear. Ankle- or calf-height in fawn, chestnut, or black, it prizes cosiness above all.
History
Sheepskin boots of this kind were worn by Australian surfers and in homes through the twentieth century as a plain warm comfort. From the 2000s the ugg boot became an international fashion item, even as its generic name and origins remained a matter of dispute.
