Overview

The last owner was Guido Monzino, who led the first Italian expedition to climb Everest and left the house and its collections to the national trust in 1988; his mountain museum is still inside. The loggia at the tip of the promontory is open on both sides, so the two arms of the lake appear as two separate views from one bench. Parts of two Star Wars films and a James Bond were shot here, which the guides mention before you can ask.

Highlights

The walk from Lenno takes twenty minutes along the shore and is closed some days, when the boat from the village is the only way; check before setting out. The garden ticket and the house ticket are separate and the house is worth the difference for the expedition rooms. Come on a weekday: the site caps numbers and closes when it is full.
