| Way to measure | What it gives you | Best for | Downside |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kitchen scale (1 g) | The same beans-to-water ratio (~1:15) every time | Anyone who wants stable drip or press coffee | Can't track seconds while you pour |
| Coffee scale (0.1 g + timer) | Pour weight and time dialed in together | Building recipes on a cone dripper | Useless outside coffee |
| Measuring scoop | A rough one-cup ≈ 10 g guide | Keeping it as easy as possible | A scoop's weight shifts with roast and grind |
| Eyeballing | — | — | Strength drifts every cup, and beans run out unannounced |

The 1-gram kitchen scale you already own is enough. A 0.1-gram coffee scale with a built-in timer only matters once you're chasing pour repeatability with a V60-style cone.
