Weigh your coffee and your water to a fixed ratio — around 1:15 to 1:17 for filter coffee — and use the scale's timer to pace the pour, taring (zeroing) between each step. Weighing both sides instead of scooping is what makes a brew you can repeat and dial in.
Recommended Weigh coffee and water to a ratio (~1:16), tare between steps, and time the brew — A coffee scale turns brewing from guesswork into a repeatable recipe by measuring the two things that decide strength — the dose of coffee and the weight of water — plus the time. Pick a ratio: about 1:15 to 1:17 grams of water per gram of coffee for pour-over and drip (say 20 g coffee to ~320 g water), stronger or weaker to taste. Put your brewer, filter, and cup on the scale, press tare to zero it, add the grounds and note the dose, then tare again so the display reads only the water you pour. Start the built-in timer as you begin: pour a small amount to 'bloom' fresh coffee for 30–45 seconds, then pour in stages up to your target water weight, watching both weight and time. Because grams of water equal millilitres, you're hitting an exact brew volume every time. For espresso, weigh the dose in and the shot out (a ratio near 1:2) and time it. The payoff is control: if a brew tastes off, change one number — ratio, grind, or time — and the scale tells you exactly what you did.
