| Type | What it adds | Best for | Downside |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lidded glass carafe | Presentation + keeps odors out | Table and bedside water — the default | One more thing to wash |
| Open carafe / jug | Looks, easy pour | Table service, quick refills | Fridge odors; dust if left out |
| Bedside carafe + tumbler | Water within reach at night | Nightstands, guest rooms | Small volume; another set |
| Filter pitcher (already owned) | Filters and pours | If you have one, you are set | Bulkier; not table-pretty |
Do You Need a Water Carafe?
Published: ·Updated:

Worth it only if you serve water at the table or keep some bedside — a carafe turns tap or filtered water into a set-and-pour fixture that looks better than the bottle it came from. Skip it if a filter pitcher already lives in your fridge, since that pours too.
