Overview
Flowers are the speciality — Nice supplied the European cut-flower trade before the trade moved south — and the stalls still run heavily to mimosa, roses and carnations alongside the vegetables. Monday’s brocante fills the same space with furniture, linen and postcards. The restaurants along both sides trade largely on the location, so the food is better one street back.
Highlights
Go early: the market is set by seven and packed up by one. Buy socca and pissaladière from the market stalls rather than sitting down. The yellow house at the eastern end was Matisse’s flat for sixteen years, marked with a plaque.
