Overview
The island is national park and uninhabited, so the beach has no development of any kind — no kiosk, no shade but the trees, no fresh water. At the northern end, Hill Inlet’s tide pushes sand and water into shifting swirls, which is the image most people know. Stinger suits are supplied on tours between November and May.
Highlights
The Hill Inlet lookout on Tongue Point gives the swirl view; the beach walk below reaches it at low tide. Day boats from Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island give three to four hours ashore, and campers can stay overnight at Whitehaven with a park permit. Carry everything you need in, and take it back out.
