Overview
The bay was Oia’s working harbour when the village lived by shipping, and a handful of boats still tie up there. The cliff above it is volcanic red rather than the white of the caldera rim, and the light in late afternoon is the reason photographers come down. A path continues around the headland to a swimming spot by the chapel rock.
Highlights
Walk down and take the bus or a taxi back up unless you want the climb in the heat. Eat grilled fish at a taverna with your feet almost in the water — book in high season, the tables are few. Swim from the flat rocks past the last taverna, where locals jump from the ledge.
