People belted a long, close-fitting robe (jama) and wound a turban, in fine silk worked with delicate pattern in weave and embroidery. Masters of the miniature such as Bihzad painted this court dress in exquisite detail.
Transition
With the rise of the Safavids, a distinctive turban wound on a red baton (the taj) came to mark the court.
