Men belted a long, close-fitting robe and wore the tall taj turban wound on a red core — the cap that gave the Turkic “Qizilbash” (red-heads) who backed the shah their name. Painters such as Reza Abbasi drew the graceful dress of youths and women.

In the 18th-century Afsharid and Zand periods, this court style was carried on with new headgear.
